Dog Throwing UpDog owners would occasionally witness the dog throwing up. The retching sound being made by a vomiting dog can make an owner vault as often times the pet would choose to upchuck the contents of the stomach on the carpet. What is even more disconcerting is the fact that most of the time there will be two mounds to clean up. Does the dog has a vengeful spirit? A dog owner should not be surprised if the dog throws up as these animals are indiscriminate eaters. Dog owners know that dogs are voracious eaters that would not pass up the chance to consume even inedible objects. Objects that should not be in the stomach will be vomited by the dog. Apparently, dogs know that they only need to throw up to remove the foreign objects from their stomach. Dogs have a reputation for being ravenous eaters. These animals would consume large amount of food in a very short time. Because foods will just be “sniffed” by the dog, throwing up will occur when the dry food expands in size after absorbing the moisture in the stomach. The dog’s vomiting can be acute or chronic. Throwing up, similar to bouts of diarrhea is common in dogs thus pet parents should not be too concerned more so if a change in behavior is not noticed in the pet. Generally, acute vomiting is not life threatening. Sudden vomiting usually results from the dog’s insatiable eating habit so that when the excess content or the foreign body in the stomach is thrown up, the dog would act as if nothing happened. However, there are instances when acute vomiting would need immediate medical attention. Dogs have a curious personality. These adorable creatures may have ingested poisonous substances or objects that were swallowed are too large to pass the smaller intestinal tract. Throwing up caused by poisoning or blockage of the intestinal tract would need immediate medical attention. A seemingly healthy dog that has recurring bouts of vomiting may have an underlying medical condition. Chronic vomiting can be caused by distemper, parvovirus or by intestinal parasite infestation. Chronic vomiting is one of the symptoms of pancreatitis, allergies and inflammatory bowel disease. Chronic vomiting can lower the energy level and result to a less than appealing appearance of the dog given the fact that the body would not benefit from the nutrients of the food thus to prevent this situation from happening, the dog must receive prompt medical attention. As bouts of vomiting can seriously affect the health of the pet, a dog owner must ensure that the dog receives prompt medical attention.
